Newfoundland - Dogs 101

The Newfoundland (nicknamed the “Newfie”) is a giant working dog breed that shares several commonalities with the more famous Labrador, including their place of origin, and can feature a black, grey, brown or black and white coat. The breed’s exact origins are largely unknown, except they likely came from the Canadian province of Newfoundland and were first used for the key objective of retrieving nets for fishermen. Their massive size and sweet, gentle nature and intelligence, which makes them ideal for training, all help in making the Newfoundland a suitable breed of dog for active families who can provide them with a spacious home as well as plenty of companionship, exercise and brushing.
