Saint Bernard - Dogs 101

The Saint Bernard (also named the “Saint”, “Noble Steed” and “Alpenmastiff”) is one of the largest dog breeds in the world, second only to the English Mastiff, that features a large head and muscular body with a coat of varying shades of red and white. The breed first originated from Roman dogs that were brought to Switzerland, but their official history began in the mid-1600s where they were famously bred for finding and rescuing lost travelers in the Swiss Alps. They are credited for saving over 2,000 lives during their time of service. Their giant size and devoted, eager-to-please and gentle nature makes the Saint Bernard a popular selection for confident owners who can handle such a large dog and provide them with a cool, comfortable living environment.
